TITLE TICASS - Technologies of Imaging in Communication, Art and Social Sciences

SHORT DESCRIPTION Visual technologies have a significant influence on a repertoire of competences most essential for people. They bring with themselves a new language of visual narration and a new mode of reading visual signs. In order to recognize and describe possibilities and limitations intrinsic in visual technologies of contemporary iconosphere, we pose the following questions: How do people in different cities read and perceive visual signs, icons, codes QR, diagnostic images and digital graphics? How do visual technologies function in different cities, different countries and different continents? In the TICASS project we address this question by means of North-South cooperation, drawing the geographical line from Norway to South Africa (via Poland, Czech Republic and Italy).

The selection of the Partners is based on the similarities and differences, which allows us to take into consideration different social, political, climatic conditions while searching for common cultural and human values. We will investigate different images that are tangible cultural phenomena in order to recognize their intangible sense, meaning and value, which will serve educational purpose and increase the level of awareness and critical perception togheter with understanding tha specifics of different countries involved in the TICASS project. By these means we plan to elaborate Integrated Theory of Visual Education, which will facilitate mobility in multitude of visual communicates. The main problem we address by the means of our research is that in educational programs there is a lack of teaching students how to read and interpret visual communications present in social spaces, which is indispensable for culturally developed and conscious communication on a global scale.

Therefore, the TICASS project aims to introduce visual literacy into educational programs and to contribute to economic and cultural development in Europe and in Africa, enhancing international cooperation, learning new skills and fostering career development tn the area of research and innovation. International and transcontinental exchange of researchers contributes to the augmentation of awareness on human condition in the iconosphere, which is a significant import to the knowledge-based society, especially to the guiding principles of Creative Europe and Creative Africa.
